What “Editorial Desk” means

The Top Football Editorial Desk is the collective site byline used on ranking pages that are published and maintained at publication level rather than credited to a named contributor. It is not an individual's name and does not claim playing, coaching, journalism or academic credentials.

The site does not currently publish a named editor or owner biography. Until verifiable contributor profiles are available, we will not invent a person, imply credentials or present the Editorial Desk as a single expert.

How rankings and comparisons are made

Each ranking publishes its factors in the “How we judged it” section. Depending on the question, those factors can include peak performance, longevity, role difficulty, strength of opposition, competition context, tactical influence and cultural impact. No single statistic decides an all-time order.

Comparisons use a defined set of side-by-side factors and end with a reasoned verdict. Both formats are editorial arguments, not official FIFA, UEFA, league or federation rankings. Our broader principles are also set out in the ranking methodology.

How sources are used

For current facts, we prioritize official club, league, competition, federation and venue sources. Reputable media or specialist records can add context when a first-party source does not answer the question. Detail pages show the references consulted in a “Sources checked” section so readers can open them directly.

A source link identifies material used during the review; it is not a claim that one link proves every sentence on the page. Fast-moving statistics, squad details, capacities and records should be dated, sourced or written without a fixed number when the number is likely to change.

Published and updated dates

Detail pages display both a published date and an updated date. Published records the page's first release. Updated records the latest substantive revision or verification logged for that page; it should not be changed only to make an old page look fresh.

Active-player and seasonal pages need closer review because a match, transfer or competition result can change the facts. Evergreen history pages are revised when the evidence changes, a source becomes unavailable or a reader flags a correction.

To report a factual error or a retired source, email alextovt2@gmail.com. Include the page URL, the exact sentence or table entry, and the source you want checked. These details help us distinguish a factual correction from a good-faith disagreement about an editorial ranking.

We review the claim against the best available source, correct confirmed errors, replace broken references where possible and update the visible date when the change is substantive. The same address is available for methodology questions and other feedback on the contact page.

Independence

Clubs, competitions, federations and media outlets linked as sources do not approve our verdicts or control ranking positions. The site may display advertising as described in the Privacy Policy, but advertising does not determine which subjects are covered or where anyone appears in a list.

The Top Football does not publish betting tips, casino content, paid predictions or gambling advice. Rankings are built around football evidence and stated criteria, not odds, fantasy picks or promotional betting angles.
